The Pono Players take on the issue of bullying in a new original production called "One Big Family: Nobody Likes A Bully." The youthful cast has used improvisation to take bullying stories from real life and weave them into powerful scenes that are frozen as they reach their terrible consequences. The cast then goes back in time, and shows characters making different choices, choices that could lead to a happier ending. The audience, too, gets a chance to suggest alternatives to the bullying scenarios. These scenarios include such issues as cyber-bullying, slam books, physical bullying, name-calling, and "sexting."
The scenes are interwoven with song and poetry to create an artistic and high-impact piece that will touch the hearts of students in middle and high schools. The performance will provide young people with a thought-provoking experience that raises awareness, provides ideas, and sparks conversation, leading to changes in attitudes and behaviors.
This show is being presented free of charge. The program is geared to middle and high school students. Because of the serious nature of some of the scenes, this show is not recommended for elementary schools.
